Conference

FFAG9 aims to bring together scientists from academia and industry to address complex topics related to the rheology and non-linear mechanics of advanced glasses. As with previous FFAG editions, FFAG9 is open to any scientist interested in the physics, chemistry, and mechanics of flow and fracture in non-crystalline materials.

FFAG9 will be preceded by a two-day school introducing the fundamental knowledge needed for the workshop. It will be held in the same location. Details are provided on the dedicated page.

Topics

The workshop will explore experimental and modeling approaches to the flow and fracture of any type of amorphous materials (oxide, chalcogenide, metallic, and organic glasses, etc.) including

  • Plasticity, yield, plastic flow and localisation
  • Crack growth, fatigue, environmental effects, crack tip processes
  • Non-linear mechanical response of glasses, especially in extreme conditions, including high strain rates and dynamic fracture
  • Relation with structure, network type, connectivity, topology, composition, dynamic response in the linear and non-linear regimes such as elasticity and viscosity below, around and above Tg
  • Structural evolution accompanying deformation and fracture and methods to measure or predict them
  • Design of amorphous materials and toughening strategies

and all related topics.
